Rules and Regulations

General information

Ignite the Stage is a UK-based dance and vocal competition open to performers aged 3 years and above, with categories for children, teens, and adults.
The competition celebrates performance, creativity, and talent across all genres of dance and vocals.
All participants, teachers, parents, and supporters are expected to demonstrate respect, professionalism, and sportsmanship throughout the eve

Entry and Registration

All entries must be submitted via the official Ignite the Stage registration portal (dancecompgenie)or through an approved entry form.
Entries are accepted on a first come, first served basis until the competition reaches capacity.
Each act must provide full details upon registration, including performer names, ages, routine titles, and category selection.
Age is determined as of the date of the competition.
Late entries may be accepted at the organiser’s discretion and may be subject to an additional fee.

Tap
Jazz/modern
Lyrical / Contemporary
Commercial / Street
Acro / Song and Dance
Open (any style combination)

Vocal Categories:
Pop
Musical Theatre
Classical
Open Vocal Performance


Group Types:
Solo – 1 performer
Duo/Trio – 2–3 performers
Groups – 4 or more performers

Time limits

Solo – 2 minutes
Duo/Trio – 2 minutes 30 seconds
Groups – 3 minutes 30 seconds
Vocal Solos – 2 minutes 30 seconds
(Overtime may result in a small deduction unless approved by organisers in advance. Extra time may be purchased if the schedule allows. This will be determined 4 weeks before the event.)

Spectators pass Adult - £18

Spectators pass Child - £10

Under 5s - free

Music

All music must be uploaded in advance via the registration portal.
Backup copies (USB or phone) must be available on the day.
Profanity or inappropriate lyrics are strictly prohibited — this is a family event.
Competitors are responsible for ensuring their music is edited, labelled, and correctly timed.

Costumes and Presentation

Costumes must be age-appropriate, modest, and suitable for a family audience.
Props are allowed but must be safe, easily transported, and not damage the stage surface.
No live animals, pyrotechnics, glitter bombs, or liquids that could create hazards are permitted.
All routines must be performed safely and within the dancer’s ability level.

Judging criteria

Performances will be evaluated on:
• Technique – execution, control, and accuracy
• Performance Quality – energy, stage presence, and confidence
• Musicality – timing and interpretation
• Choreography – creativity, suitability, and originality

Each act will receive feedback and a total score from the judging panel.

Awards

Every performer will receive a participation medal. Medals or trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.
Special awards may include:

• The Ignite Award (top overall performance) - The highest honour of the competition. Awarded to a performer or group who truly ignites the stage with exceptional talent, stage presence, and originality. This award recognises a performance that captivates the audience and judges alike, leaving a lasting impression!

• The Flame Award - Presented to a performer or group who shows outstanding passion. energy and commitment throughout their performance

• The Spark Award - The Spark award recognises emerging talent - someone who may be at the beginning of their journey but already shines with excitement and flair!

• The Stage Igniter Award – Awarded to a performer who demonstrates exceptional skill across dance, vocal and performance disciplines - a true all-round star.

Judges’ decisions are final and cannot be challenged.

Photography and Filming

No unauthorised photography or video recording is permitted during performances. You are allowed to film your own child or have permission from a parent or legal guardian to film a child’s performance from your own dance school.
Official photographers and videographers may capture footage for promotional use.
By entering the competition, participants and guardians consent to the use of images and recordings for promotional and marketing purposes.

Safeguarding

All under-16 performers must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or licensed chaperone.
All staff and volunteers are trained in safeguarding and adhere to the Ignite the Stage Safeguarding Policy.
Any concerns should be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead on site immediately.

Backstage and Behaviour

Backstage areas are restricted to performers, chaperones, and authorised staff.
Respectful conduct is expected at all times — bullying, aggression, or rudeness will not be tolerated.
Running, food, or drink is not permitted in performance or backstage areas.

Disqualification and Penalties

Acts may be disqualified or face point deductions for:
• Breach of time limits without approval
• Inappropriate music, costume, or behaviour
• Use of prohibited props or substances
• Failure to adhere to competition rules
• Poor sportsmanship or misconduct

Finals

High-scoring acts may be invited to perform at the Ignite the Stage Grand Finals.
The top routines will be considered for special features, encore performances, or social media highlights.

To place in the finals each entry must have a score of 80 or above or have placed first or second in their category.

Refund Policy

Entry fees are non-refundable except in the event of cancellation by organisers.
In cases of illness or injury, partial refunds or credits may be considered with medical evidence.
